About the course
This course covers the basics of film directing and the full production cycle. Participants learn how to turn their own idea into a finished short film — from script work, set management, and working with actors to final editing. The core principle is learning not only how to tell a story, but how to show it visually. The program combines theory and practice; at the end, participants shoot a mini-film on a smartphone as their practical project.
Course plan
1. Script and idea development
- Initial concept: turning an idea into a short cinematic story and the basics of script work.
- Visual language: transforming text into screen image — becoming aware of what we show through the frame.
2. Pre-production
- Planning and organization: mobilizing resources, locations, and crew needed to shoot the film.
- Director’s treatment: defining the film’s visual and conceptual style in advance.
3. Production
- Process and set management: the director’s work on set, framing principles, shot size, and depth of field.
- Working with actors and crew: collaboration with camera, cinematographer, technical team, and performers.
- Practice: exercises in framing, sound, time, and rhythm.
4. Post-production and final project
- Editing: editing principles and building a unified structure from filmed material.
- Final stage: sound and color correction; finishing the smartphone mini-film.
